Our Philosophy
When you work with us, you can expect:
An all-inclusive approach
Helm acts a single point of contact for every aspect of your financial life. Said another way, Helm can integrate investment management and financial planning in a way that addresses the goals you’ve defined and maybe some you haven’t thought about yet.
Personalized attention
Helm is a small company by choice. We know you and we treat you like the individual you are. We develop a unique strategy based on your needs; we don’t give you a one-size-fits-all plan.
Financial education using straight talk
We help you gain confidence by teaching you about financial concepts that affect your life. We want you to be an educated consumer and be empowered about your financial decisions.
A good value
Helm’s annual fee covers as many meetings or calls as necessary to help you accomplish your financial goals. In addition, we are highly aware of the overall fees you pay for money management, and we seek to reduce them when possible.
The highest professional standards
As an RIA, we act as a fiduciary, which put another way means we work for the sole benefit and interests of clients and always put their interests before our own.
Core Values
Teamwork, efficiency, honesty, transparency, professionalism and trust.

Holly Colvin, CFA, CFP®
I fell in love with finance in 1993, just after I started working for a mutual fund company in Los Angeles. After I became a bond trader in the municipal market, I decided to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and achieved it in 2000. During those years of study, I developed my bond expertise and learned the capital markets inside and out. Over the years working at mutual fund companies I developed more interest in personal financial management. In 2015 I earned the Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner designation, and opened Helm Financial Planning. Helm is a Registered Investment Advisor in the state of Massachusetts.
As a Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, I have met the high standards in education, experience, examination and ethics required by the CFA Institute and the CFP® Board. In addition to these professional designations, I earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degrees from Boston University in 1991.
My husband and I, along with our three children, live in West Newbury, Massachusetts and spend our leisure time boating, skiing and enjoying all outdoor activities.
I have a passion for personal finance and want to help you achieve your financial goals in life.
